Recreating A Look

Ever wonder why some people seem to just know how to dress? It appears every time you see them, their outfit for the day is on point. It seems effortless. Well, I have news for you. Even the savviest of fashionistas tend to struggle every now and then trying to find that look they will not only be satisfied with but making a statement where others will notice them. Everyone needs to be inspired. The same as when a writer gets writers block, or an artist just can't place their vision on campus or in music, whatever their muse is, they rely on people places or things for motivation and to get the creative juices flowing.

Whenever I get the styling block, I refer to various social media outlets to get inspiration for my next stepping out gear. My number one favorite is Pinterest. But before I start viewing through all the model pics, I have to decide what mood is going to determine the style I wish to achieve.

It could be Edgy, Trendy, Conservative or Classic Chic.  I then decide what do I already have in my closet that comes close to what the image portrays. I don't typically want to duplicate the inspired look of the model but maybe add my own taste to it by changing the belt or shoes. Maybe by wearing a different color shirt from the what the model is wearing.

Here's an example of looks I really loved from a model on Pinterest.

Instead of wearing a pinstripe collared shirt as you see the model wearing, I used a solid color that went well with the color scheme of the jacket. Also, I could not tell if the model is wearing a belt, but I wore this vintage belt I thrifted years ago to accent and bring attention to the waist. Also instead of the orange heels, worn by the model, I wore a pair of round toe vintage suede pumps that matched the hue of the camouflage cargos.

I could have very well matched the exactness of the model however, when dressing you want to put your own personality into it. The goal is to build your own signature style that signifies who you are. Build your own esthetic.

Another source of inspiration is through Fashion Magazines. They can be intimidating especially if you can't afford the prices they offer, but you can duplicate the look. Look for the essential styling elements of that outfit and see what you have in your wardrobe. Or while on your next thrifting trip look for that piece or that item that comes close to what you saw in that magazine.

Vest and corsets are essential pieces that is a must for your wardrobe.
You can turn an outfit you may have previously styled and change it up for a different look all together. This works especially when traveling and you don't want to overload your suitcase up with many additional outfit pieces. Use an outfit you've previously worn but tweak it using a vest cardigan, or corset for a different look.

Can't imagine wearing high heels all day but definitely not into flats? Try wearing a chunky block heeled boot. The platform sole along with a square heel won't arch the foot as much which tend to make feet uncomfortable. They also can be worn with an array of different pieces. This is a chic way to add to an edgy look as well as height.

While thrifting I always end up finding items that are trending, classic pieces or styles that remain current. I make sure the clothing items I purchase are made of quality fabrics. Especially vintage. Man made fabrics tend to fade after time or wear after much cleaning.

So, if it's your desire to be stylish whether on a budget or not and find yourself in a fashion inspiration slump, check out other venues like Instagram, Tik Tok and other social Media outlets. That way you will always live fashionably ever after.

WHY THRIFT?

I get it. Th-rifting is a turn off for many people. For some the thought of wearing clothing that someone else has worn is unimaginable. The idea that second hand clothing which should be given to the homeless and less fortunate is being sold by businesses for profit. And third, they just can’t stand the smell of going into those places.    I hear this all the time. Well to settle the minds of some. " Second hand clothing is not for everyone".    Used clothing can be cleaned using basic washing detergents and cleaners. The amount of  clothing given  away or donated is more than enough to help the homeless all over the world and then some. Another fact is purchasing clothing from a thrift, vintage or any second hand store is environmentally friendly and also helps with sustainability. Tons of clothing and materials are recycled which eliminates waste that is polluting landfills.  We live in such a throwaway society. If ...

Come With Me Goodwill/Marshalls Trip

It's not the Labels, Its who you are

Fashion is not what the labels say, it's who you are.                                                                                                                                  I discovered my love of Fashion early in life. As a little girl I always loved dressing up. When my parents would leave the house, I would always go in my mom’s closet and pull out her black patent leather, and suede stilettos, slip on her fancy cocktail dresses, pile on her jewelry and wrap myself in her faux furs. I wou...
